Living Dangerously 1999

Living Dangerously 1999 Review

I know nothing going into this event except for the RVD/Lynn match that I've seen before.

We start off with an interview with Taz who says he's going to go after Sabu's jaw. He name drops Steve Austin and Ric Flair and says that neither of them can beat him. Whatever you say Taz.

Super Crazy vs Yoshihiro Tajiri
Tajiri looks a hell of a lot different than how he looked in the WWE. These two guys seem to have fought quite a lot in ECW, especially in three way dances. Both guys showed incredible athleticism in this one with many high-flying moves. The crowd was really into it as well. A short match but it was fun while it lasted and was a good way to open the show. ***

Steve Corino vs Balls Mahoney
I think Corino may be a jobber. His in-ring promo before the match reminds of the promos the jobbers did before they faced Ryback two years ago. Corino did get a little bit of offense in. Not much though. A slightly entertaining squash match. 1/2*

We get a video package showing the Dudley Boyz hitting a bunch of 3Ds. I think this is to show the feud between Mustafa and Nujack

Antifaz del Morte vs Little Guido
Little Guido is also known as Nunzio in the WWE. The crowd was really quiet for this one until they started the 'boring' chants. A short match that didn't really have any flow or substance to it at all and just seemed to be a bunch of spots mixed together that didn't go anywhere. *

Rob Van Dam vs Jerry Lynn
ECW TV Title is on the line. Jerry Lynn was probably RVD's best ever opponent. RVD calls this one of his best matches and for good reason. Their match from Hardcore Heaven is worth a watch as well. There were some fantastic 'holy shit' reversal spots in this match. Just some brilliant counter wrestling here, and you never knew where the match was going to go. An awesome match, and thankfully they had more of them. ****1/4. I think the show has just been stolen.

Mr Mustafa vs NuJack
Scott Keith said that this was the worst match he had ever seen and rated it negative five stars. I wouldn't go that far but this was a bad one. It mainly featured silly weapons spots like a toy lawnmower. The balcony spot was awesome though and looked very dangerous. I'll give it  * for that spot, but the rest was a total DUDfest.

Dudley Boyz attack afterwards and lay down an open challenge which is answered.

Dudley Boyz vs Spike Dudley & Nova Sid
Nova started off this match with Spike, but he took a 3D (or Dudley Death Drop) and was stretchered out to the back to bring out Sid. I had no idea that Sid was ever in ECW. The crowd seemed almost silent for this one. The whole thing went over ten minutes and was completely dull the whole way through. Another bad match and the worst of the night so far.  DUD. Afterwards Joey Styles says, "What was the point of that?", and I have to agree.

Tommy Dreamer & Shane Douglas vs The Impact Players
The Impact Players are Lance Storm and Justin Credible. Judging by the video package, this feud is based on Storm and Credible interrupting Douglas's retirement speech. Dreamer and Douglas want revenge. I'm surprised by how quiet the ECW audience seems to be tonight. A decent enough tag match if a bit heatless until the finish with the ladder and the catfight. I enjoyed it. ***

Taz vs Sabu
This is to unify the ECW World Title and the FTW Title. One of ECW's longest rivalries and perhaps its best continues here. Taz made this Falls Count Anywhere. Once again the crowd was pretty heatless except when they popped at the big spots. Still this was a good main event match and was entertaining all the way through. I liked the story of Alfonso wanting to throw in the towel but Sabu refused to lose that way. A good way to end the show. ***1/4

6/10.  A decent show here that's worth watching for the good opener, two good main events and the awesome RVD/Lynn match. There is some bad stuff here though like the NuJack/Mustafa crap and the awful Dudley Boyz tag match. Apart from that it's a fun show.
