McMahon DVD Review

McMahon DVD Review

I have a feeling that there might be some ass kissing involved here. Well first off, Vince's childhood is not mentioned at all, as it goes straight into his first time as a commentator for his father's business. They also skip over the part of Vince taking over his father's business. It was refreshing to hear some negative things about Vince from guys like Greg Gagne or Sgt. Slaughter. There's a huge time gap here as they go from Vince taking over the territories, all the way to the Monday Night Wars. That's a little disappointing. That's not to say that the documentary isn't enjoyable. It's very enjoyable. Going in, I expected lots of praise for Vince, but there was a lot of talk about his failings like the XFL, or being attacked by the media for things like Katie Vick. I loved how Vince said that he never regretted the Katie Vick storyline because he liked it. Overall I'd say it is a very entertaining feature and is worth a watch, even with its flaws. 7.5/10

Disc 1 Extra Features :

I Enjoy the Fight

Ultra-Competitive

No Vacation

Regal's Rehab

The Sleeping Giant

I'm the Boss

I Remember My Dad

Slammy's "Stand Back"

VKM Training Package

These are all interesting to watch, including the deleted scenes that I'm about to list :

The Motorcycle

WWE Championship

9/11 Smackdown Taping

Stuck in his Ways

The Walk

Stone Cold vs Vince McMahon
This is their 'match' from Raw. This must have been very highly anticipated at the time. People were desperate to see McMahon finally get his ass kicked by Austin. McMahon decides to make Austin tie one hand behind his back. Before the fight begins, Dude Love comes out and attacks Austin. The match never begins. Really entertaining though.

Disc 2 Matches :

Stone Cold vs Vince McMahon : Steel Cage
At the time, this was a highly anticipated matchup. This was barely a cage match to start, but it was a fun brawl. Vince flying through the announce table was an awesome sight to see. This also had the debut of Paul Wight , also known as the Big Show. Austin managed to win as Paul threw him at the cage and it opened up . **1/2. This was never going to be a technical classic, but it was entertaining all the same.

Stone Cold vs Vince & Shane McMahon : Ladder
The first handicap ladder match in history. I think this is also the only ladder match that all three of these guys have been involved with. The winner of this match would gain full control over the WWE. This one was a lot of fun and the crowd was really into it. Someone raised the case when Austin went for it , but that person was never revealed. Vince and Shane grab the case to win. **3/4

Triple H vs Vince McMahon : No Holds Barred
Quite the historic match here, is it was the contest that started the McMahon-Helmsley era. The match itself is very long, I think around 30 minutes, but it does have it's moments. Just like a typical hardcore match with HHH mostly in control. After HHH wins the match, he gives Stephanie a hug to show that she was with him all along. **

Vince McMahon vs Shane McMahon : Street Fight
This is probably the best match between two non-wrestlers ever. Sure, it's overbooked but it really helps it. The crowd was hot for it and to hear the crowd go wild when Linda McMahon stands up is unbelievable. Mick Foley was great as the ref too. Shane wins the match after an incredible coast to coast with a garbage can. ***3/4

Vince McMahon vs Ric Flair : Street Fight
This was never going to be a technical classic, but I'm sure both guys were trying their best to give us the most entertaining match they could. At the time, I think Ric was part owner of the WWE, and obviously that pissed off Vince. Ric also wasn't an active wrestler here. Didn't take long for Flair to blade. And yes this was a fun match. Not the best, but enjoyable. **1/2

Hulk Hogan vs Vince McMahon : Street Fight
This was really big as it was 20 years in the making. It looked like this might have been a dull match, but both guys, especially Vince, managed to bring us an entertaining fight. Roddy Piper's appearance here was great and in a twist attacked Hogan instead of Vince. Hulk got the win after an amazing 3 leg drops. Surprisingly good match here . ***

Vince McMahon vs Stephanie McMahon : I Quit
I think this might be the only mixed gender I Quit match in history. Vince was sick of Stephanie as the general manager of Smackdown, and so wanted to get rid of her like any normal boss would do. Try and beat her to death. Apparently this was 6 days before Stephanie's wedding, so they had to be extra careful here. Stephanie was allowed to win by pinfall, and the nearfalls were really good. Unexpectedly good match here. Linda throws in the towel for Stephanie to give Vince the win. **1/4

Undertaker vs Vince McMahon : Buried Alive Match
If you want to sit down and watch a match that mainly features Vince McMahon getting his ass handed to him, then this fight is for you. Vince barely got any offense in here until the end, but that was the point. Fun just to watch Vince being beaten up. Taker's final match with the biker gimmick. Kane interferes to bury Taker, leading to his Deadman return at Wrestlemania XX. *

7/10. This was quite an interesting set. The documentary is worth a watch for sure, but a lot of the matches can be found on other sets. That doesn't stop them from being entertaining though. Worth a look if you can find it because I think it's quite hard to find nowadays.
