Breaking Point 2009 Review

Breaking Point 2009 Review : Yet Another Montreal Screwjob

MVP & Mark Henry vs JeriShow
At this point, JeriShow were really taking off as a great tag team. Jericho was there for the great wrestling and Show was there to end the match. The match itself was pretty good, but I wish it could've been longer. Best choice for the opener of the show anyway. Big Show hits Henry with the punch to end the match. **3/4

Kofi Kingston vs The Miz
US Title is on the line, and this is one of those matches that was made on the fly, the day before the show. That, however, did not stop it from being a good match. The crowd was a little disinterested at first, but the counter wrestling got them into it. Surprisingly good match here, as Kofi hits the trouble in paradise for the win. ***1/4

DX vs Legacy : Submissions Count Anywhere
The first time this match type was brought up, and I think it has only made two appearances in total. They had to put this match over and I think they succeeded. First of all, it was a very entertaining match. Secondly, Legacy got the win which was a nice rub from DX. The 'You screwed Bret' chants were annoying though. A couple of the submission holds were quite innovative. Legacy win with a combined figure four leg lock and million dollar dream. ***1/2

Kane vs The Great Khali : Singapore Cane Match
Talk about your cool down matches. Of all the rematches on this show, why is this one that they thought we would want to pay money to see? Thank god they had the gimmick match to help them along a bit. Not by much though. Kane chokeslams Khali to end the match. 1/2*

Christian vs William Regal
ECW Title up for grabs here. I can't believe these guys were only given about eight seconds for their match at Summerslam. Thankfully they've corrected that error and given them a good ten minutes to work here. The bout had a slow pace, but they used that to their advantage, with Regal using some nice submission moves and suplexes to wear Christian down. Christian hits the killswitch to win. ***1/4

John Cena vs Randy Orton : I Quit Match
WWE Title on the line. This one was a little unpredictable, because it was hard to imagine either guy saying 'I quit'. This had a slower pace to it, but it managed to work that pace to it's advantage, just like the previous match on this show. Orton hitting Cena with the kendo sticks was hard to watch, especially with the welts shown on Cena's ribs. Great match and a great visual to end the match as Orton quits to the STF using the handcuffs. ***3/4

Undertaker vs CM Punk : Submission Match
They just had to end another show with another version of the Montreal Screwjob didn't they? To be fair, the match was almost guaranteed to have a screwy ending, unless they wanted Taker to win, but there was no way in hell that he would submit. It was too short as well, especially for a main event. Speaking of main events, these two would go from having a main event match, to being the opener a couple of weeks later. Not a very good match and a bad way to end the show. **

6/10. Not a bad show here. There were some matches that delivered like the Submissions Count Anywhere match and the I Quit (should have been the main event) match. The only terrible match was the Kane/Khali match, and the main event also dragged the show down. Apart from that, it was pretty good.
